About the Weekly Mastery Lectures for Math 122

Calculus for Management, McGill

The weekly sessions for Math 122 are 2h, small-group, sessions that aim to clarify the concepts and theory presented in the class lectures and tutorials. They include detailed, typeset notes (written specifically for Math 122 at McGill) that explain the terminology and notation. The notes are carefully designed as interactive documents that provide students with a chance to engage the material during the session and also include representative problems and additional practice problems whenever possible.

During the session we will look at detailed, developed solutions, that illustrate different aspects of the material in a systematic, structured and easy-to-follow way. Solutions are colour-coded to make it easy for students to see through the barrage of symbols and focus on the key concepts. It’ll also help you learn to structure your answers efficiently and effectively, so that the logic of the solution is clear to you (and the marker!).

The sessions are also designed with a view of the entire course in mind, so you know where to invest your time both in terms of success in this class, as well as in terms of the topics that will have the greatest application in future classes.

If you feel you’re terrible or hopeless at math, or just don’t enjoy it, there’s probably a list of bad math teachers somewhere in your past that would go a long way to explaining the difficulties you have, & no one wants to spend their time feeling like they just can’t get it. However, if you’re motivated and willing to do the work and practice, then you can definitely succeed. I’ve seen it hundreds of times: students go from failing in a fantastically impressive way to acing the class. The weekly tutorials will go a long way to rehabilitating your relationship with math. Whatever your level, I want to help you reach your goals in this course – there’s so much more to gain than just a good grade in rising to the challenge.

Cost & Payment Structure for Math 122 Weekly Mastery Lectures

If you have never attended one of my sessions previously, you can check out a Weekly Mastery Lecture for only $20. Simply register using the contact form above, or get in touch with me at Jacob@Math122.com – you’ll be glad you did!

  • Full 7-Week Membership: prepay for the entire set of 7 sessions and get the lowest price offered for the Weekly Mastery Lecutres: $280 for everything you need to master the material and succeed in your class.

    Included in the weekly membership: not only the weekly lectures, but detailed notes at every session (4-6 pages, 9pt, colour-coded), and priority registration (as well as discounted rates!) for WebWork Workshops, Midterm Review and Final Mastery Sessions.

    This option is only available during the first 3 weeks of sessions and for the total set of 7 sessions. So if you join during the 2nd or 3rd session, the price is still $280; however, you’d receive all the previous notes and still qualify for all the benefits.

    My goal in offering this lowest price is to encourage you to join the sessions early, so that you can establish a strong foundation right from the start so you’ll be less stressed for the final and do better in the class, overall: take advantage & register right away!

What You Should Know about MATH 122

This is very satisfying class to teach because a good teacher in a smaller learning environment can make a huge difference.

Although the class starts off pretty slow and easy, don’t be fooled: Math 122 packs all the concepts of what is usually a 2-semester course, and the concepts build throughout the semester. A solid foundation that includes problem solving skills and a thorough understanding of the material is critical for success in the entire course; however, this isn’t obvious from the outset, when Uncle Wolfram seems to be able to offer all the answers!

As a result, students can be blindsided by the volume of material in the class, just a few weeks after the Mid Term, and then there isn’t time to go back and master the earlier material while keeping up with the new. In light of this common experience, I help students master the earlier material and focus on points that will make the later material eaiser to understand and integrate. This way, by the time the toughest topics arrive, students are already familiar with them and generally don’t struggle at all.

Whether you join the weekly sessions or not, if you want to do well in this class, push yourself to really understand the early topics and concepts. Don’t be satisfied with just being able to get the right answer for your WebWork assignments, that won’t be enough. Mastering the first half of the class will not only make the second half easier to learn, but will make the end of the semester much less stressful for you, leaving you with more time to focus on other classes.
